FAQ's Spring 2021 Overrides--Admitted BSN Students
Please refer to specific instructions on the BSN override request form.
Q: Why do I need to request overrides/chair approval for nursing courses?
A: All NSC courses are restricted and require our office to process an override or "chair approval" in the registration system to permit a student to register. This allows the School of Nursing to confirm clinical policy compliance and reserve the courses for enrolled nursing students.
Q: Should I submit a second override request form if I needed to update a CastleBranch requirement or if I haven't received a response yet?
A. No, do not submit multiple override request forms. Duplicate forms will be deleted. If the form was submitted correctly, you will be returned immediately to the EKU homepage. All forms are received and logged in our system for processing. If you find you need to update a CastleBranch requirement, the request form will be held and processed once your requirement(s) are updated. Once overrides are processed, you will receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org with a list of CRN#'s clearing you to register for nursing courses.
Q: Why isn't the nursing course I need listed on the override request form?
A: If you are trying to register for NSC 232, 242, 252, 332, 350 or 380 you are a pre-nursing student or newly admitted BSN student who will receive overrides from Academic Specialist, Carla Farris. You may contact email@example.com for more information on the override process for these courses.
Q: Can I submit the override request form later this fall or winter?
A: If you are clear in CastleBranch, you should submit the form now. If necessary, you can wait to submit the form later this fall, but should update CastleBranch requirements before the December 1st deadline as required in the BSN student handbook. You will not be closed out of nursing courses while waiting for overrides. Nursing courses are reserved for nursing students. Second Degree BSN students registering for Summer 2021 nursing courses need to update CastleBranch requirements before May 1st and cannot have any requirements set to expire in the month of May.
Q: Why do I need to update CastleBranch requirements now that aren’t set to expire until later this fall or this winter?
A: We can’t process overrides until you have updated CastleBranch requirements through January, the month the new term starts. This ensures students will have met their clinical requirements when the Spring 2021 term begins. Clinical sites check CastleBranch accounts before classes start.
Q: Is it acceptable to have a CastleBranch requirement that is set to expire during the Spring 2021 term?
A: You should not let a requirement expire and become overdue at any time. Students cannot have any requirements set to expire prior to or during the month of January. (Second Degree BSN students requesting overrides for summer nursing courses cannot have any requirements set to expire prior to or during the month of May.) It is acceptable to have a CastleBranch requirement set to expire during the semester provided the renewal occurs in advance of the expiration date allowing enough time for CastleBranch review and acceptance of uploaded documentation. If a CastleBranch requirement expires and becomes overdue, students cannot return to clinicals until the expired requirement is renewed. The missed clinical will be an UNEXCUSED absence.
Q: How do I upload a new document to CastleBranch if there isn’t a slot?
A: You’ll need to call CastleBranch customer service at (888) 723-4263 or use the online chat feature to ask that they open a new slot(s) for early renewal. When CastleBranch opens a new slot, you can expect the requirement to temporarily read “overdue” until the new document is uploaded. This temporary situation is acceptable and will not affect overrides/ enrollment.
Q: How do I know when my CastleBranch requirements are set to expire?
A: Students can download a "Compliance Summary Report" to view CastleBranch requirement expiration dates. Students can call CastleBranch customer service at (888) 723-4263 or use the online chat feature for assistance or to obtain upcoming expiration dates.
Q: Do I need to register for PLI before submitting an override request?
A: If you previously registered for Fall 2020 PLI CRN # 10971, you are covered through summer 2021. If you have not previously registered for PLI, you should register for Spring 2021 PLI CRN# 20824 as you would a class through EKU Direct once registration opens. This covers students from Spring 2021 through Summer 2021.
